The RSL around Australia prides itself on the welfare support it provides to the veteran community through both volunteers and paid staff. Here at the Maleny Sub Branch we provide a comprehensive range of welfare programs to assist local veterans and their families.

We aim to support veterans in accessing entitlements and support programs available from the community, governments and the RSL. This can involve provision of advice on assistance, through to help with completing forms for assistance. We also assist with pensions applications and reviews.

Other support includes hospital and residential care visits, military eulogies at veterans’ funerals and a full range of commemorative events.

We provide social opportunities, such as bus trips, theme dinner nights and other programs to help overcome social isolation.

Our welfare service providers are caring RSL volunteers with experience in community service and include Department of Veterans’ Affairs qualified practitioners.

Rehabilitation Services at Maleny Hospital

Maleny Soldiers MemorialHospital has received a Commonwealth Government grant for eight sub-acute beds for inpatients.  This is known as ‘slow stream rehabilitation’.

The grant provides the hospital with full time Occupational Therapist, Social Worker and Physiotherapist, in addition to Tim Bagshaw who will continue his normal visitations.  The grant also provides access to Speech Pathology and a Dietician.  Funding is for two to three years, although Nicole is confident it will become a permanent arrangement.

This is a great outcome as it allows locals to stay in a highly regarded local facility during what is often protracted rehabilitation treatment.
